A doctor of chiropractic may use some instruments for analysis that are familiar to you, and maybe some that are different from those you have encountered before. You may be asked questions about falls and injuries that you may not have considered important, even from childhood. You will notice that a chiropractor is very interested in every detail of your condition, and will always take time to give complete attention to your problem.
Even though two patients may have the same disorder, they will not necessarily progress in the same manner. Each patient is an individual who must be studied and analyzed as such.
Sports injuries and the rigors of athletic training typically disturb normal body mechanics.
Dr. Skjervheim is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner, which means he carefully studied and passed comprehensive examinations administered by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians. He has completed 100 hours of post-doctoral education and passed the Board Examination. He diligently maintains the highest level of competency, plus stays abreast of the latest research and developments through continuing education and hands-on experience.
When a joint is impaired there is reduced range of motion, inflammation, calcium buildup and scar tissue.
This can be caused from repetitive motions, improper sitting, over exertion, slips, falls, accidents and other causes. Common terms: "Tennis Elbow," "Runner's Knee," "Frozen Shoulder" and "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome."
Joint Mobilization, like Chiropractic care for the spine, is being used in the care of elbows, wrists, hips, knees, shoulders, TMJ, ect; helping to restore normal range of motion to joints that have become "locked up," "jammed," or injured. This seems to improve blood circulation, reduce scar tissue and speed up the healing process.

So-called "natural" birthing methods can stress a still-developing spine. The resulting irritation to the Nervous System can be the cause of many new born health complaints; colic, unexplained crying, poor appetite, breathing problems and allergic reactions can often be traced to Nervous System Dysfunction caused by a malfunctioning spine. Chiropractic adjusting techniques are modified to fit a child's size, weight and unique spinal problem. Many spinal problems seen in adults begin in childhood. Proper spinal hygiene is an important key to better health.
Why Orthotics?
Your feet are the foundation of your body, and they serve you in three important ways:

Back and Neck problems usually begin with an acute episode which heals quickly. However, much recent evidence indicates that these problems tend to reoccur, with gradually increasing pain and disability. Many studies have found that the best predictor of a new episode of back pain is a previous one.
If tissues heal with poor function, symptoms can persist long after they heal. Such areas may become chronic and at risk of re-injury. A good long term recovery is best achieved by restoring function through Chiropractic Care and an exercise program for continuing support and stability. Exercise training is effective in preventing back and neck pain.
"Proper" exercise improves muscle strength, endurance and motor control, enhancing the way muscles work together to stabilize the spine and extremities, protect it from injury and decrease pressure on discs, joints and ligaments.

Regardless of where your pain may be, Dr. Skjervheim will examine your spine thoroughly to discover if a vertebral subluxation complex (VSC) is present and adversely affecting nerves and other tissues that lead to where the pain is.
The answer may be found in your spine, where a surprising number of health problems can originate. You may have one or more VSCs.
Those VSCs can produce interference with normal nerve function, and other bodily disturbances. This is best discovered through careful examination of the spine.
An extremely simplified way to try and understand what a VSC is, is to imagine a misaligned vertebra producing irrtation and or pressure on nerves, disks and other adjacent tissues.
